PisteScore

PisteScore rates pistes on a continuous S1 to S5 scale using terrain data rather than resort colour codes. A score means the same thing in every resort.

S1Forest Green1.0 to 1.9
S2Alpine Blue2.0 to 2.9
S3Piste Red3.0 to 3.9
S4Off-piste Black4.0 to 4.9
S5Avalanche Orange5.0 to 6.5

How a score is built

Gradient: how steep the piste is, and for how long.

Crux: the hardest section, and where it sits on the run.

Feel: how much room a skier has to manage speed and line.

Aspect: which way the slope faces, and what that does to the snow.

A PisteProfile: gradient, width and lift connections from terrain data.

The score comes from terrain geometry only. It does not change because a run has a reputation.

What skiers say about a run is published alongside the score, kept separate, and allowed to disagree with it.

A PisteNet is a connected area a skier can ski around in and return to their base from. It is the unit PisteScore grades for a resort.
